Strengthens International Collaboration: POLISAS Malaysia Visits BPFST UNHAS
Makassar – Hasanuddin University hosted a delegation from Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic (POLISAS), Malaysia, on April 2, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen international collaboration. This visit marked a significant milestone for the Bachelor Programme of Food Science and Technology (BPFST) at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in exploring academic collaboration, research, and human resource development with higher education institutions from Malaysia.
The POLISAS delegation, led by Mr. Mohd Safarim, was warmly welcomed at an official meeting held in the Vice Rector IV’s Conference Room. The meeting was chaired by the Director of Partnerships at Hasanuddin University, Ansariadi, Ph.D., and attended by representatives from the Vocational Faculty, the Faculty of Agriculture, and the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta), represented by the Vice Dean of Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs of Fateta, Dr.rer.nat. Zainal, S.TP., M.FoodTech, as well as other officials from the Office of International Affairs and the Sub-Directorate of Partnerships. Both parties discussed opportunities for collaboration in the fields of education, research, and academic development to strengthen ties between the universities.
Following the official agenda, the POLISAS delegation continued their visit to the Food Science and Technology Program at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, welcomed by the head of the Food Science and Technology Program, Prof. Dr. Andi Nur Faidah Rahman, STP, M.Si, along with faculty members, laboratory assistants, and staff. During the visit, the delegation toured several laboratories that serve as centers for educational and research activities. The laboratories visited included the Food Microbiology and Biotechnology Laboratory, the Food Analysis and Quality Control Laboratory, and the Sensory Testing Laboratory. The delegation received a briefing on the learning facilities, research activities, and innovations developed by faculty members and students.
The visit continued on April 4, 2026, the BPFST team accompanied the POLISAS delegation to the Teaching Industry. During the visit, the group got a glimpse of the production facilities and various innovative products developed by the Unhas academic community. The products introduced include chocolate and coconut oil, which were developed by Fateta faculty members as part of the downstreaming of university research outcomes.
Additionally, both parties discussed concrete collaboration opportunities such as inbound and outbound student exchanges, faculty research collaborations, and the implementation of other joint academic activities. BPFST is receptive to accepting and developing collaborations that can enhance academic quality. Through this meeting, it is hoped that the relationship between UNHAS and POLISAS will grow stronger and lead to sustainable collaborative programs that benefit the development of higher education in Indonesia and Malaysia.
